Have you noticed that your mother hustles (like the OG she is) the entire morning on just one cup of coffee, has her breakfast AFTER she’s fed everyone which is probably just one idly/dosa/chapathi or even yesterday’s leftovers because she says – “oh I do not have an appetite after so much work!” Right after, she’ll feel so fatigued and need to rest for some time.
If you have read my previous article (if you haven’t, read it now!) you already know what happens if you skip/delay your breakfast.
In this case, your mother has exhausted her muscle glycogen reserves, her body’s metabolism has slowed down (as a result her appetite has reduced) and body enters conservation mode after sometime. When she does eat her meal, her body will ensure to store it thinking it might not get more food.
But what is her body conserving? FAT! Because fat is used for energy in the body when we fast for “extended periods” and our body spends it in very small quantities when in conservation mode.
But then isn’t fat supposed to get used up when we skip a meal? It does not work like that unfortunately. Think of fat as money in a locker and muscle glycogen as your UPI payment. If you go to a shop, what will you spend first?
So what is the solution? Start your day with a balanced breakfast BEFORE your morning hustle. That sets your hunger clock for the day and also burns your heavy meal.
For people working in different shifts, have a balanced meal before you start your shift.
In case you’re wondering, this is also why it is recommended to eat less at night, because we move less and sleep soon after!
Oh! And get your mother to eat her meal FIRST. She’ll have double the energy than she does already.
All this aside, HOW DO YOU BURN FAT? I shall speak about this in my next article!
