The first thing I teach my clients is to love their food and eat in peace. The current hustle culture has driven a wedge between us and our food. Most of us end up eating mindlessly, in a hurry, giving in to cravings but refuse to acknowledge the fact that this might be the actual cause to most of our health problems.

Eating intuitively means how to eat based on your body’s hunger signals. When we practice this for every meal every day, we can rebuild a healthy relationship with our food, mind and body. We have to relearn to trust our body to heal our relationship with food.

Does this mean we can eat whatever we want whenever we want? Nope. Truly listening to our intuition will help us balance our nutrition in the food we eat, providing our body with exactly what it needs.

How do we go about this?

  • Start by distinguishing physical hunger and emotional hunger. Momentarily giving in and binging on a snack out of boredom, anger or sadness might gratify you, but it will also make you regret it later.
  • Sit in a designated place and eat – most preferable is sitting on the floor cross legged, but you could also sit at a dining table. Avoid sitting on the couch or on the bed in crooked positions.
  • Eat slowly – all of us are so busy we cannot take out 10 minutes for our meal. But we absolutely should. Take a 10 minute break from whatever essential task you are doing and just focus on your food. This will also help you gauge a few minutes before you feel full so you can stop eating.
  • Avoid screens – why do you want to distract your brain from enjoying the food in front of you?
  • Chew well – experience the food. It is such a rewarding feeling. You will genuinely feel happy and satiated after a meal.

The meal plans I design are a great start to learn how to balance nutrition in each meal, follow hunger cues and build good eating habits. My meal plans train you to eat clean and also enjoy an occasional craving too. I ensure that my clients takeaway this core life lesson from me.
