There is a preconceived notion that including more liquid foods in your diet might help you lose weight as they are low on calories. Let me explain why that logic is flawed.

While both solid and liquid foods have calories, the calorie density of liquid foods, which is the number of calories per gram of food is lesser than solids. If I were to give an example of fruit and fruit juice, 100 g fruit contains more calories than 100 g juice. BUT, 100 g fruit also contains a lot more nutrients AND fibre compared to 100 g juice.

Sure you can have a glass of juice thinking its better, but you will need A LOT OF JUICE to feel satiated (refer to my previous post!). 100 ml juice will do nothing to your hunger while 100 g fruit is an excellent snack which fills your stomach.

Let us say you had 300 ml juice to satisfy your hunger; you have probably consumed the same calories as 100 g solid fruit while ingesting lesser nutrients and just spiking blood sugar. Not to forget that liquids digest very quickly so you are bound to feel hungry again very soon. This will prompt you to eat something again which leads to overconsumption of calories when you could have just eaten the fruit, saved time by not making it into juice, satisfied your hunger and also got a good dose of nutrients!

While liquid diet is prescribed for a temporary period of time after certain surgeries in order to not load the digestive system too soon, it is not a plausible way to lose weight. Sure, you will lose weight if you drink liquids all day but you will also get weak due to imbalanced nutrient intake which can dangerously lean on malnourishment.

Nothing gets you to lose weight except being on a calorie deficit. You can achieve that by eating regular solid food on a calorie deficit rather than going on a juice diet you found on google! You will be less HANGRY!
