Listen to your gut! (excerpts from Payal Kothari’s book – THE GUT)

Your body houses nearly 100 trillion microbes (which is more than the number of cells you have!!) out of which nearly two-thirds of microbes are found just in your GUT. Your gut communicates with all the systems in your body THROUGH YOUR BRAIN. This is why it is called the SECOND BRAIN!

Your body’s defence mechanisms, metabolism, mood, pain, digestion, absorption are all functions governed by the microbes in your gut.

  • The number of healthy bacteria in your gut determines how slim your waistline is
  • The regularity of your bowel movements and mood depend on these microbes
  • These bacteria are responsible for 90% of serotonin production and 70% of dopamine production which are happy hormones! Come on now, you have got to keep your gut healthy atleast for this!
  • Moms-to-be out there, know that your gut microbes are what get passed down to your baby through breastmilk. Keep your gut healthy to ensure your child’s gut is healthy

Nearly every health condition is related to the health of your gut – gastric problems, constipation, intolerance, arthritis, psoriasis, PCOD, depression, ADHD, anxiety, allergies, thyroid, migraine, all of it.

Did you know that ice cream consumption causing a sore throat is actually a gut problem!

Temporarily eliminating foods like above that trigger health conditions, avoiding ultra processed foods and consumption of excess sugars, and most importantly EATING A BALANCED MEAL which includes whole foods is a good place to start to heal your gut!

If your gut is healthy, your body is in the pinkest of health!
