Worried about smelling sweaty or unpleasant? That fear often leads many of us to overuse deodorants or perfumes before stepping out.

But did you know your body odour might actually be trying to tell you something? It’s not always just about sweat or hygiene—several underlying factors could be at play:

  • A diet high in red meat, cruciferous vegetables, spicy foods, garlic, onions, alcohol, or caffeine can result in a strong body odour due to sulfur compounds.
  • Hormonal changes, especially around your period or during menopause, can alter how you smell.
  • Excess weight can cause sweating in unusual areas, leading to a distinctive odour.
  • Liver or kidney issues may produce an ammonia-like smell.
  • Diabetes can sometimes cause a fruity body odour.
  • Certain medications may also intensify body odour.
  • Most commonly, accumulated toxins in the body can be released through sweat, contributing to unpleasant smells.

Simply masking the smell with layers of deodorant or perfume might not solve the root problem.

Instead, try supporting your body from within:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
  • Cook with whole herbs and enjoy herbal teas to help detox naturally.
  • Choose breathable, natural fabrics for your clothing.
  • And of course, maintain good personal hygiene.
