Anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, wound healing – Is there anything mustard cannot do?!

Packed with copper, selenium, manganese, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium, zinc, iron, calcium, Vit C, Vit K, Vit B1, B2, B3, B6, B9 — Is there anything mustard does not have?!

How can a humble food ingredient have so many nutrients packed into it? Nature is truly genius!

Mustard seeds can be used whole for tempering, ground into paste for sauces, or pressed to make oil. And the leaves? A delicious and nutritious leafy veggie that’s a winter staple across North India.

Interestingly, mustard actually belongs to the cruciferous family. That is, it is a close cousin of cabbage and broccoli! Who would have known?

Oh I almost forgot, mustard oil is low in saturated fats and rich source of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids too. In fact, it is a better source of omega 3 than olive oil and perfectly suited to Indian high temperature cooking methods.

Mustard has uses beyond the kitchen too. Mustard oil can also be used to soothe joint pains and rubbed on the chest to clear sinuses.

But remember, moderation is key in the case of all food ingredients.

That’s it for this blogpost. I was so amazed I just wanted to share this information with you all!
