We commonly reach for ajwain when we experience bloating or digestive issues; but there are several other benefits that are not well known.

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, ajwain can help relieve nasal and chest congestion. Simply boil a spoonful of seeds in water and inhale the steam. The same property makes it useful for easing joint pain when applied topically as ajwain oil. It’s also known to help with toothaches and minor skin infections.

Chewing on ajwain helps with bad breath due to its anti-microbial effect. It is also effective against stomach infections caused by E.coli or Salmonella.

Ajwain may also help regulate the menstrual cycle and ease period pain. To prepare, boil a spoon of ajwain in water for 5–10 minutes until the water turns pale yellow. Strain and drink it on an empty stomach — it supports digestion as well.

The key is to follow through every day for lasting results.

Ajwain however should be avoided by people who have ulcers as it can get aggravated.

Excess quantities of ajwain can also have a negative impact on blood pressure, cause acidity or nausea and dizziness. Ajwain should also be avoided by pregnant women due to risk of uterine contractions. Moderation is always the key to good health!
