If you have been diagnosed with PCOS, one of the first things your gynac would tell you is – lose some weight and things will get better. So what do you do? You start eating less food and resort to doing aerobics or dance fitness as often as you can.
Its been a while but your weight doesn’t drop. What’s worse is you are not even feeling good about doing all this! The lack of any change in number on the scale gets you dejected and your periods are not regular either. But you’re a fighter so you decide to push harder. You skip breakfast, eat only salad for lunch and dinner and continue with your dance classes.
A few weeks later you just end up with ankle or knee pain, extreme cravings with no sign of your period and a really bad mood. The worst of all – you have gained more weight!
Must be so frustrating right? Believe me, I know. But the truth is, PCOS is not a weight problem, it is a lifestyle problem. Birth control pills can help regulate your period, but they don’t address the underlying hormonal and metabolic imbalances in PCOS.
Your poor lifestyle has put your body in survival mode which is why –
- It has slowed down metabolism
- It stores fat because it feels unsafe
This messes with your hormonal balance which shows up as PCOS. Your hormones are not fighting YOU. They are responding to your poor lifestyle, poor eating habits, lack of sleep and stress levels. This is why the harder you push, the harder your body pushes back.
Regulating PCOS is not about weightloss, it is about working in harmony with your body’s needs – bringing it out of survival mode and making it feel safe again.
- You don’t need to skip meals – you need to eat right.
- You don’t need to do endless cardio, you need to build strength
- You need to prioritise rest – sleep like it is your job
- Most of all, you need to have patience
Lifestyle changes do not work instantly like pills. Healing your body is not about how intense your workouts are, it is about what little you do everyday that makes a difference.
If you are someone or know someone battling PCOS, its time you stopped fighting with your body and worked along with it.
If you’re tired of fighting your body, let’s help you build a plan that works with it. I am just a message away!
