We procrastinate on many things in life – replying to emails, booking that dentist appointment, folding laundry. But nothing beats how consistently we procrastinate when it comes to our health. Ironically, it’s the one thing we cannot afford to put off. Yet here we are. Again.

“I’ll start from Monday.”

Well, in the current scenario, “I will start from January.”

Why though?

Because Health Has No Immediate Deadline!

Miss a work deadline? There’s an angry email waiting. Miss a tax deadline? There’s a penalty.

Miss walking today, eating mindfully, or sleeping on time? Nothing dramatic happens today.

Your body doesn’t send you a reminder notification saying: “Congratulations! You’re now 7% closer to getting a heart attack.”

Health problems don’t knock. They accumulate quietly — like unread messages — until one day they all arrive together. So we delay repeatedly.

BECAUSE THE CONSEQUENCES FEEL FAR AWAY.

We believe we need:

  • A completely free schedule
  • A new set of workout clothes
  • Zero stress at work
  • Motivation levels of an Olympic athlete

Only then can we start.

So we wait.

And wait.

And then wait some more.

But real life doesn’t pause to create a wellness-friendly environment. Deadlines don’t disappear. Kids don’t suddenly become low maintenance. Work hours don’t magically shorten.

Let’s be honest.

When people think of “getting healthy,” they imagine:

  • Starving
  • Giving up rice
  • Endless cardio
  • Eating sad salads while everyone else eats dessert

THIS IS TOTALLY UNTRUE!

If your health feels like punishment, procrastination becomes your self-defence. Your brain says: “Let’s not suffer today. Future me can deal with this.”

Tomorrow always looks more promising. Tomorrow we’ll wake up early. Tomorrow work will be calmer. Tomorrow we’ll feel motivated. Tomorrow we’ll have more willpower.

But tomorrow usually looks exactly like today – you are just more tired, more irritated that you didn’t start off yesterday and guilt tripping yourself about being a failure.

Ignoring health is not because of laziness. It’s often avoidance. BECAUSE IT IS REALLY BORING!

It is not cool or flashy to choose healthy options, wake up early, exercise and head to bed at 10 pm like a normal human bring. It’s easier to scroll past health advice than to admit,
“Something here applies to me.” So we postpone. Not because we don’t care.
BUT BECAUSE WE DON’T KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN.

The real problem is how health has been marketed to us: All or nothing, extreme or useless, perfect or failure.

No wonder people delay starting. But lifestyle changes don’t need to be dramatic. It needs consistent, boring, repeatable actions done imperfectly.

Not a reset.

Not a detox.

Not a Monday.

And definitely Not a January.

Waiting to FEEL READY is the fastest way to stay stuck.

Motivation is unreliable.

Even this blogpost will probably give you a motivational kick for 5 minutes and then you will get back to your day like I don’t exist.

But you know what IS RELIABLE?

DISCIPLINE.

You often complain that your child is not disciplined enough. But the real question is, are you disciplined?

Because the best time to stop procrastinating on your health was probably five years ago.

The second best time? Right now.

And no, you don’t need to quit rice for it.
